This event will raise awareness about heart valve disease and celebrate the growth and accomplishments of Inova’s Structural Heart program. The event will feature comments from: Dr. Christopher O’Connor, M.D., CEO of Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, Dr. Eric Sarin, M.D., Co-Director of Inova’s Structural Heart Program, Sue Peschin, MHS, President and CEO of the Alliance for Aging Research, a heart valve patient, and The Honorable Barbara Comstock (VA 10). A lunch panel discussion with cardiologists and surgeons talking about heart valve disease, its symptoms, causes, and treatments. The physician panel will include William T. Brinkman, MD, Ambarish Gopal, MD, Katherine Harrington, MD, Sameh Sayfo, MD, and Molly Szerlip, MD. Register and learn more.

The Awareness Day Campaign, the American Heart Association, and Everyday Health will host an one-hour Twitter chat on all things valve disease. Topics include the impact of heart valve disease on America’s population, the risk factors and symptoms of valve disease, how patients and loved ones can get involved in the heart valve disease conversation, and more. In recognition of National Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day, campaign partners and supporters will be ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange. You can watch a livestream of the event online, starting at 3:56 p.m. here.

In honor of National Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day, UNC Heart Valve Clinic will be celebrating the grand opening of its new Nash heart clinic. Hospital leadership, heart center directors, valve disease patients, and Rocky Mount mayor will give remarks. Food and drinks will be available and TAVR technology will be on display.

Two WomenHeart Hospital Alliance Members will be hosting heart valve disease community education events at their hospitals on February 22nd. MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center (Long Beach, CA) and Mount Sinai Hospital (Chicago, IL), were selected for funded memberships to the WomenHeart National Hospital Alliance, courtesy of Edwards Lifesciences, due to the high prevalence of heart valve disease in underserved populations in their communities.
